Question for lady cyclists

    These days it's not just whether it has a cross bar or not.

    Most of the big name bike manufacturers now do frames designed specifically with women in mind. They have a shorter top tube but a longer seat tube by proportion, as women tend to have shorter torso's but proportionally longer legs compared to a man of the same height.

    They also tend to have a higher headset and shorter stem since women's arms also tend to be shorter than mens.

    In the end though it comes down to what fits you and what you are comfortable with.

    Mens or woman's, if it's for anything other than pootling around town on it's worth going to a proper bike shop and having them check the fit for you before you buy it.

          Part of the problem is that I've never ridden a drop-handlebar road bike, so really got no idea how it should feel.

          I think there is a shop in Pangbourne that has a good reputation for fitting bikes, so might pay them a visit.
