    I went through LBA recently, and having a defibrillator (did I mention that?) or ICD implanted in my chest, I can't go through the scanner or be scanned with the hand held. I'm sure it would be ok, but my wee card the hossie gave says I can't.

    Anyway, normally it's a breeze, and dead cool cos they never search me usually, just walk me through. Last time I was sending my hand luggage through and the woman asks me, just at the point where I usually announce I have an ICD and she says;

    'Have you any electrical such as a laptop in your bag?'

    I said 'No, but I do have a defibrillator fitted....."

    She cuts me off and says 'Is it in your bag?....'

    Eff me, yeah it's got Wifi.......

      You wouldn't want anyone to get ICD and IED confused. My mum would definitely get that wrong.

        Luton airport is a mare as the majority of the time they have feck and all security gates open.

        But as people say, get your stuff ready in advance and be polite and it should be fine.

            Would violent porn be an acceptable compromise?

It's printed on the boarding passes, it's on the webpages you should read before printing your boarding passes. It's explained at baggage drop, in the queue and when you get to the poor sod who has to dig out said half bottle of shampoo after all that.

              fooking newbies - did they not read the FAQ first before packing their shampoo? Full strip search for them all - hand me the rubber gloves. No need for lubricant.

                  And remember that while half the passengers they deal with are chavs, the other half are nice foreigners. The staff should be ambassadors for their country. They don't have to hand out ferrero roche - just not treat everyone like scum.

                    In the 18 years that I've been flying through my own free will (i.e. without the parents) I have never once felt I have been treated like scum as you put it. That's including numerous pissed up stag dos, far too many pissed up European football trips as well as frequent business travel.

                    Personally I think it may be the fact that I don't have a problem with authority. The military soon knocked that into me. I'm not being rude Brillo, but you appear to me that you have a problem with authority (rightly or wrongly) whether it be the CSA, HMRC, Police or your typical G4S security bod.

                    On a side note, I hate flying from Schiphol, only back to the UK though because they do the screening at the gate which is a major PITA.
