Blur the figures! I'm comparing and contrasting. You show a nice plot in exclusion that seems to justify your argument. Back in the wider economic context it appears the UK youth unemployment acting no differently to the rest of Europe, in fact we were comparitively less volatile, if the NMW had some effect I would expect us to stand out in a negative way not a positive one.Originally posted by Robinho View PostOk, if you want to blur the figures we'll just rely on the basic economic theory instead then....
If something costs more, it's consumed less.
You have no answer to that so you move the goalposts.Comment

Map UK GDP with youth unemployment. The economy continued to bubble up until late 2007 yet youth unemployment rose.
There's no need to look at other countries, they probably introduced their own destructive regulations.
Nor am i moving the goal posts i am just going back to the core fact that the more expensive something is the less it's consumed.
Are you disputing this fact?Comment

I'll dispute that. Look up Price Elasticity of Demand.Originally posted by Robinho View PostMap UK GDP with youth unemployment. The economy continued to bubble up until late 2007 yet youth unemployment rose.

Labour: fighting short term populist decisions with short term populist decisions.
Not helped by the socialist institutions that are responsible for the appalling education system in this country.

Although I can, why should I debunk your "fact" when you won't conceded that the UK was doing comparitively well compared to the wider economy and hence it would seem that the NMW has had negligible effect. If you don't believe it's the economic cycle then ask yourself... What was causing similarly high youth unemployment in the early 90s? This was a time when there was no NMW. In your basic but flawed argument... If something costs less it must be consumed more surely?Originally posted by Robinho View PostMap UK GDP with youth unemployment. Well, if they don't want to work, they don't have to - that's their call. Provided we deny them benefits i don't care.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostYoung don’t want to work, says company with 500 jobs | The Times
