Dont anyone dare criticise the NHS. The NHS is like Jimmy Savile - utterly virtuous on the outside. Anyone that dares to challenge it is immediately rubbished and smeared. Yet on the inside exists a monster of a monopoly riddled with inefficiency, restrictive practices and poor service.

It amazes me that anyone still reads newspapers today. In Surrey, we used a local private A&E, which used to charge £15 up front to see what was wrong with you. Then you obviously got the insurance involved if it was serious, and went home if it wasn't. It worked for us, as there wasn't 25 drunks staggering around threatening everyone, and you had no waiting time (when we used it).Originally posted by doodab View PostDo you think a private A&E is going to treat you without seeing evidence of ability to pay? Do you really think it will be cheaper if you happen to need it?
It was a couple of years ago, so prices would have gone up, but it was a very good service.
NHS A&E were exceptional at looking at the kids very quickly when we used them before, which was impressive, but break a finger playing cricket and you'd be there for hours, upon hours. Much prefer private.Comment

NHS is being privatised anyway. Was at Farnham hospital with my mum - nurse told us they're about to become part of 'Virgin Healthcare'.
