Jacking it all in and doing something else

plan c (a crappy website I did in a weekend to solve a very small problem clientco had) already generates 50% of my contracting income and that's without any marketing spend.

At the end of this contract i'll use that as the basis to take 6 months off and work out what I want to do. It'll be internet related because it seems you can still make significant money from solving small problems well.

no that is plan b. plan c is a very minor part of that re-purposed to solve a particular problem. Plan b meant that plan c was written in no time because its 98% re-purposed code with a couple of quick additions.

When it gets a public facing front end I'll change my link but for the moment I'll keep quiet. What is surprising is that its such an obvious problem I'm really surprised I can't find any competition.

Can I ask how the website is monetised? I've started to dabble in wiriting a couple of niche websites & the one I launched five months ago is now appearing on page 1 of Google for certain keywords & is attracting up to a 1000 unique visitors a month. However, I'm making pennies trying to monetise it through affiliate links.

I don't do affiliate links. I'm providing services and charging $$$ for them.

the one thing I've learnt doing this is don't charge peanuts for it. work out the amount of money at which you're happy to answer the phone and answer the questions then charge more than that.

Granted there is an entire set of customers I'm ignoring at the moment but I can live with that.

I'm now considering flipping my websites because there are people out there who do know how to monetise websites which attract a 1000+ visitiors a month.
Do you (or anybody else) know what such a site would be worth?

The thought of working as a contractor for the next 20 years just doesn't comprehend at the moment. Plan B (or C) must work.
