                  I can remember hiding behind the sofa watching the first ever episode of Dr Who in 1963.

                  Vividly.

                  Also:

                  Tomorrow's World (probably been mentioned by now)

                  But I'm surprised how many British TV programmes I've never heard of.

                  I hardly watch broadcast TV at all now, apart from the news headlines on the hour accasionally, and documentaries pre-recorded so I can zip through the ads at 32*. I mostly watch downloaded or purchased films.
