          This is puzzle that sometimes a lower level of intellect helps or at least does not hinder. Overcomplicating things makes you go searching for things in the wrong area.

                I disagree, of course, it is a very simple puzzle yes, but it is about spotting as pattern, nothing else. Overcomplicate that and then it becomes tricky. I have always thought in our world, people always look for complicated solutions when simple solutions would suffice.
