I moved up here about twenty years ago, and the friendliness of the people is one of the reasons that I stayed.

That's actually a double edged sword - I was ooop North last weekend and popping into the local shop meant engaging in small talk rather than the more efficient silent get, pay & leave approach common in the Sarf. Not saying it's bad - but if you're in a hurry its not that good either

I've worked in other places in Wythenshaw, but never at Lloyds TSB, no.

Indeed but one incident isn't really enough to label an entire city is it? Your original comment mentioned guncrime, not shooting of officers, which is thankfully an extremely rare occurance. In some areas people are regularly shot at or caught carrying weapons and it is not reported due to it's frequency.

Well there was the incident of the Indian student being shot in head at point blank range. From what I recall the chap was caught and said it was just pure fun for him.
