the case was withdrawn by the BCA after some horrible behavior from their legal team.

Osteopath vs. Chiropractor

Chiropractic is based on a philosophy proven to be entirely untrue, and plausibility issues aside it has never shown any efficacy whatsoever under proper trial.Originally posted by Ketchup View PostI vaguely remember reading something in the Guardians "Bad Science" column that Chiropractors aren't worth the money and there is no scientific proof that it actually works. In some cases it can actually be harmful.
The BCA has an enormous number of ASA complaint that have been upheld.
It is a poor reflection on the people that otherwise mature adults still believe in fairly tales and get taken in by snake oil salesmen.Comment

I felt the chiro I went to was a total con man. Quick enough to take money and dish out verbal advice, but did nothing to help my back whatsoever.Comment

My wife and I both use a naturopath for our assorted ailments.
One doesn't even need to attend a consultation; all that he asks is that a lock of hair is enclosed with his fee in order for him to perform some analysis and a telephone diagnosis is made shortly afterwards.Comment

I started to get pain in my elbow a few years ago. It got to the point where it hurt so much I could not pick up a full pint glass by the rim and if someone hit my shield hard I would dop my sword (the shockwave caused so much pain I simply could not help it). I developed golfers and tennis elbow in the same elbow at the same time without playing golf or tennis.
I went to a chiropractor who identified that the problem with my elbow was caused by a knock on effect from my shoulder which was caused by a problem in my wrist. We had a talk and he traced the problem back to when it was likely to have happened - I had armour failure and got my thumbed spiked and later on someone arm locked me a little to enthusiastically and hurt my elbow. Both of these together ended up being more than my body could easily repair.
I went to see him a few times and he fixed the pain without me needing to stop training and he also got me to show him the sword shots I throw and pointed out the one I was doing wrong which was aggrevating the issue. I have changed that shot and get no elbow problems now. I go every so often and he can often reconstruct fights I have had from the muscle knots and defects I am carrying.
A friend who had the same problem went via the NHS and has had bone injections, months off training etc and still has issues with his arm.
Every time I get treated he checks my range of movement, strength at angles etc and shows me where it is not working properly, treats it and then shows me the difference.
He is outstanding and I would not have the quality of life I do now without him.Comment

They were making claims that it could cure serious conditions like cancer, IIRC.Originally posted by sasguru View PostDidn't Simon Singh, the science writer, win his libel case when sued by the Chiropractic assoc. as he claimed their claims were bogus?
One treatment worth looking at - if the pain is muscular - is dry needling. I know one person who had it, who said it hurts a lot, but a few days afterwards, the pain she'd felt for years had disappeared. Apparently, the chronic pain is caused by knots in the muscle - little hardened areas of fibre. Sticking a needle into it provokes the healing reaction. It should not be done by anyone who isn't a properly qualified doctor, as a needle in the kidney or liver could ruin your entire day.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Is this similar to acupuncture?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostThey were making claims that it could cure serious conditions like cancer, IIRC.

very similar in that is doesn't workOriginally posted by Ketchup View PostIs this similar to acupuncture?
cancer is covered by the 1939 cancer act, something they've been brought up on repeatedly, the points brought up in the libel case were more based around childhood colic and otolaryngology claims, they'd already reluctantly bowed out on the cancer nonsense.Comment
