Prohibition didn't work out too well for alcohol when the Yanks gave that a go. And the present worldwide War on Drugs is looking pretty ropey too. I suspect that criminalising nicotine for a whole generation would only have similar results. -
How about smokers tolerate non-smokers not smoking, and non-smokers tolerate smokers smoking?Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostErm are we talking about smokers tolerating non-smokers or non-smokers tolerating smokers?

Like I said, its tricky. We have an aging population that we cannot afford for them to have a long idle retirement, so why would the government want to make people last even longer? Its totally illogical. They need to encourage extreme sports, smoking, drinking, casual unprotected sex and drugs.Comment

I can just picture it
in a few years time, getting stopped on my way into the off licence by a mother and daughter
young girls says 'hey mister would you get me a litre of white lightning ?'
EO - 'er.. doesnt your mum object?'
mum - 'mister, would you get me ten woodbines'

I don't see any evidence it is getting better or worseOriginally posted by Gentile View Postthe present worldwide War on Drugs is looking pretty ropey too.
If nicotine(or alcohol) were discovered now it would be banned. But governments are used to the tax revenue now. Which is why cigarettes will not be banned.Comment

Just like during alcohol Prohibition, the War on Drugs has caused the mass incarceration of low-level offenders, whilst sending profits for the king pins behind the trade through the roof.
If you made cigarettes illegal for one generation whilst criminalising it for another older group, you'd find the exact same effect, only in even more starkly ridiculous terms: kids would be ending up in prison for buying twenty fags that their mum and dad could buy perfectly legally.Comment

It has always been the way that the rich do okay and the poor suffer - Jesus predicted it. Quite an obvious one really. It is not just drugs.
Why do we have to put kids in prison for buying 20 fags? What is wrong with the current rule of fining the shopkeeper?
I would like the war on drugs to be consistent.

If you want to smoke, smoke, it's your life and you should be able to do as you please. Ideally we'd all have private healthcare so that people who didn't smoke wouldn't have to pay for people that do.
I'd legalise a few other drugs too.Comment
