    We got the 1.8 which is fine for school runs but underpowered when loaded down with tons of camping kit so i'd go for one of the bigger engine options (but then you lose economy which TBH isn't great on the 1.8 to begin with).

    I'd recommend one, its a big, solid, dependable, pretty much unexciting workhorse of a motor so fits the family car bill nicely. Wouldn't get anything fancy as the kids would just destroy it in minutes.
    This - the missus has had the 2.0 diesel elegance version since new (04 plate). Got 93k on the clock and it's been (still is) a great workhorse.
