      Found one

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

F-35 will be four times more effective than legacy fighters in air-to-air combat, eight times more effective than legacy fighters in air-to-ground combat, and three times more effective than legacy fighters in reconnaissance and suppression of air defenses – while having better range and requiring less logistics support and having around the same procurement costs (if development costs are ignored) as legacy fighters
Obviously it all depends on what you classify as a "legacy fighter"

But would these be put up against Sukhoi T-50s ?
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

The thing I don't get about these 'stealth' planes is that (according to the BBC) they have the radar profile "of a golf ball". Whilst that is probably enough to keep them off of civvy ATC, I would have thought a profile that size would be more than enough to give them away to someone using specialised military selective radar. There can't be many golf balls that travel at 1200 MPH.

Yes, if that had been a non-stealth fighter it would have killed him.
