Have already asked my new mob about this (only been there a week). Their take when faced with a rapid flounce or securing my skills for the term of the project was:
"Do not worry. We will ensure that you have what you need to continue to do your work as an independent supplier this will not be affecting you." And "No. We do not class you as a civil servent. Thats why you have a different coloured badge to the full time employees..."

My first week in the office consisted of 4 days onsite, and one working from home to deliver a vision statement as a result of the meetings in the first four days. I am already controlling my own working practices and methods of delivery and have the mandate from the client to do so.

Reading the wording carefully it seems the point is simple. They are actually going after the very sort of thing that IR35 was trying to stop.

But IF you are an independent freelancer thinking about how you run your own business and behaving like a supplier rather than the sad mug that is found sat next to the permies at lunch trying to accrue flexitime, then you will be perfectly able to work outside IR35 while assuring the client that you are fulfilling your legal tax obligations and ironically paying the full amounts of tax.

I Need to take a non technical exec board on a journey that explains that backing up your data is good and SAN replication is a must as an enabler for DR.

I could call them all twunts like you are. But that won't get the job done. So unfortunately I needed to put a strategy together that tells them what their IT infrastructure will be for the next 5 to 10 years and how their it team will deliver that to them.

So 15 to 25 pages later they have a summary of what they have today and the business impact of that state. They also have a proposition, technology roadmap and the business benefits of following it through...

Now I can present it to them through their EAs and try and get them to focus their attention on delivering the right projects in the right order...

You're still coming across as a bit of a whining permie - albeit one with delusions of importance - you sure you're cut out for this contracting malarkey ?

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I can't help thinking this whole thing is to eliminate competition from freelancers for the benefit of the big consultancies.

Cast your mind back to when IR35 was introduced and Stephen Timms was on the board of Ovum Plc.

              Ok who put this

"Perhaps if these high flying IT whizz kids on loadsamoney, were worth their money, the new NHS computer system might have worked rather than being scrapped, bet all of them jumped ship when things started going pear shaped, self employed short term contract workers by definition, have no loyalty

I remember it well, and it gives the lie to it all being about how much those mercenary contractors cost! It's all about passing the extra profit made from paying fresh graduates NMW along to the relevant shareholding Lords and MPs.
