Bad luck, but they weren't taking it seriously (its not a college interview)so you shouldn't.

Unfortunately throughout your post I thought of the adverts on the telly for this (NSFW)

I am the type of person who actually enjoys going for interviews (perhaps one of the reasons I am more suited to contracting). There are a couple of occasions where I have been caught out as well but they have only served me to be stronger in interviews.

Over the last 8 years I believe I have attended in excess of 70 interviews although a fair few of them were for industrial placement at uni and Grad jobs.

I totally had to check which one she was there.

Now we've got that cleared up, which one's Ant and which one's Dec again?

It's Americanisms like that which lost you the role.

I had an interview with a guy that had such a broad Scottish accent and mumbled all the time that I simply couldn't understand him and kept asking him to repeat the question. Fortunately his sidekick was aware of this guy's problem and literally became the translator. I thought I'd blown it but after the technical test, got the gig.

On the flipside, in my early contracting days, I went for A VB 6 gig with a big company that a good friend was working at, so really wanted it. The interview was going great, really great, and I was on such a high that I started to tell a joke (difference between VB and C++ developers and getting projects finished or something) then after a stoney silence, one of the interviewers said "I'm a C++ developer, actually".

I was a fecking idiot. Even my mate their said I was an arse. He was right. No gig and one lesson learned.
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

I am glad we got to the bottom of it. I was thinking it might have something to do with knowing nine discrete technologies.

That's a lot of interviews - an average of one every six weeks. By contrast, I've only had about twenty interviews in the past twelve years, but I got most of the jobs they were for, and some of them were toughies. Just not my day this time.
