Yes, it appears to be an emphatic win for "No" with ~30% of the votes counted.
The markets certainly hadn't priced that in. Very rough open in Asia, I expect.
IMHO, Grexit is still not the most likely outcome, but the politics could be overtaken rapidly by events.Comment

Or rather - Germany hold a referendum as to whether they want to hand any more of their hard earned cash to Greece.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostMaybe Germany will insist they keep voting until they say yes?
The hard lefties seem to think that it would be "anti-democratic" for Germany to ignore a "no" vote by Greece - that voters in Greece have some ability to demand that taxpayers in Germany give them money, regardless of the democratic wishes of the German electorate.Comment

I have some sympathy with them. OTOH, the lending to Greece was primarily about the immediate threat to the EZ banking system, not about providing Greece with a plausible way out, long-term, and in many ways, they exacerbated the situation. Either way, they are going to have to pay.Originally posted by centurian View Postthat voters in Greece have some ability to demand that taxpayers in Germany give them money, regardless of the democratic wishes of the German electorate.Comment
