Just keep hitting the seat in front (by accident) when they complain, just say sorry, there's not much room back here with your seat fully reclined so you will either have to put up with me accidentally hitting your seat, or return it to the upright position. smile when saying this and appear appologetic.
If they don't return the seat to the upright position, getting up during the meal with a drink in your hand and accidentally dropping it down their neck can provide heaps of relief

I find that nudging/banging their seat usually work within 10 min's though (table down for leverage and hitting the edge of the table with your arm is best method)

Or fly first class.

Seriously, the seats should not be allowed to recline so far back anyway. It puts the onus on the passenger to be mindful of how far he has reclined and if he is causing discomfort to the guy behind him.

Just recline your own seat. Or - a revolutionary idea - be a polite person and ask the guy to un-recline slightly rather than going immediately to diptulip mode and causing a confrontation.

i have never really found reclining my seat gives an better or more comfortable journey anyway.

Hahaha! Sadly, Norwegian Airlines don't have business/first class on their short haul flights (I gather they're going to operate long haul next year and one would presume they'd have those options then!).

Yes, it's a difficult one. I think I'm more tolerant on long haul flights outside of meal times and if it's a short haul flight taking off at the crack of dawn. But on a short 1.5 hour flight at 9am, it's a bit too much IMO. I can't bring myself to do it though. Once on a flight, the guy in front of me asked if I'd mind if he reclined his seat and that is the ONE time I've seen a seat recliner have that level of awareness and politeness.

As I often have my laptop out, I find people blithely jamming their seat back the absolute height of ignorance. Just ask. I'm not going to say no ffs, and it gives me a few seconds to move my tulip out of the way.

I asked him to give me a second, and then he reclined it. Perfectly fair on both sides. Yeah, I wonder that too, I reckon he probably would have reclined it anyway, but probably only a bit.
