Due to working on a building site that is very tight on space the smoking area keeps getting moved: its latest position is right next to the “live Gas” sign, I know corporate responsibility says that you should encourage people to give up, but that seems a little extreme

I gauge the quality of a contract based on the ratio of actual working time / billed time. Target KPI = 50%.

Gong back to the nineties here, a mate who worked at Sellafield reported that the muppets banned smoking site wide.

              You've gotta larf.

I've come across different treatment of contractors, but nothing as bad as "no fraternisation". How the hell do you build any team spirit if that comes down from above?

Proper contractors know better than to mention what their rates are.

I dont disagree. I wont tell the permies even if some cheeky bugger asks outright. None of their business anyway.

And a certain way to piss off the client when a permie goes to him asking for a payrise because contractor x has told him how much he gets.

What about when you have found a new contract? Is there ever a good time to remind them how much you earn?

I'd forgotten this one. I started on a very lucrative contract, brand new project and all that only to discover that the contractor who started a month before me had told all and sundry what our rates were.

Ah well, I got a renewal and he didn't.
