I did actually get one on Friday who was OK but they are getting uppity, last week was...

"OK, so whose DB is this?" "well it is my program and my update script so I will take the heat if it fails" "who has sign off?" "department manager" "what is the script doing" "I mailed you it 4 hours ago you can read it if you like" "yes but what does the script do?" "JUST RUN THE FUGGIN SCRIPT ON THE UAT DB"

I made it policy to charge extra for bob projects, or walk if a massive bob contingent was added.

If more of us thought like this then we would either be overrun with bobs and the british industry would grind to a hault, or the raspeberry pi project would get government backing. I know what my money would be on.

You could say I wasted a week on a simple DB update but really client co wasted a lot of money trying to save money by offshoring.

And if you can, laugh (internally) at them. If you can't let it eat you up until you suffer a breakdown. The choice is yours.

Part of the job these days, what was once an email to your DBA a few rows down...

"Hi Mate, Good weekend?, got a script that needs run on UAT, can you check them out and run them if there is no issues, cheers"

...becomes a week long IM sh1te fest to India.

                  I feel your pain.

Oracle Business Intelligence exports, after fighting with goal posts that literally got up and ran away with you, I kept getting my file failing when the Bobs tried to import. Kept checking it, the date format was perfect sent a hand checked import file (one of many) to 'Profiling' it failed again (after a weeks waiting.

So I asked to see the profiling log with the SQL, strange they had 4 different ways of importing dates only 2 of which worked and one of which was right. Sent our Bob DBA's some new sql and hey presto a pass. About this time my Boss started saying to me 'why is it taking so long?', I checked every team was spending the same amount of time in profiling.

                  Was like moving through quicksand.

                    Client Co's latest strategy...

DB update scripts are branched and tagged in SVN, then the details are put into an excel document and a macro creates XML that is then placed into a web form and uploaded, someone in India then has to click a button and you script is run.
