The private company partnership that sites the cameras always state that they site cameras in black spots where there are frequent accidents. However, there as not been one accident recorded by the cameras when someone was speeding therefore other factors must be causing the accidents.

Car speedos tend to over read by about 10% IME so to be caught by calibrated equipment at a real 35mph then your speedo is probably showing ~38mph.
Experienced drivers should be able to maintain a speed of approx 30mph without constantly staring at the speedo.
Perhaps you were on the phone at the time and distracted ?Comment

Doing 30 mph in a 30 mph zone almost guarantees a tailgating session and the risk of being involved in an accident or a punch up. 33 mph is what you want. Hardly anyone does 30 mph. Grannies are exempt and just get hooted at.Comment

U have to admit these fines are purely for revenue generation, 30/34/35 wtf, ok 30/55 yes, 70/120 yes, any form of wanton dangerous driving yes, but not 35 in a 30. Fine yes, but at this level that has to be it, points means soon that two strikes and you are out - ban. Two mistakes and no income potentially.
As for 35 in a 30, it depends on the situation. If its outside a school at 8:55am on a Tuesday, it's too fast, if it's 2am on a Saturday in the middle of a deserted industrial estate in Barnsley then it's not.Comment
