Totally disgusting; the lad should never have been charged never mind convicted or jailed. What is this country coming to when we treat our up-coming young talent like this for what is no more than some drunken childish horseplay.

That depends. Is posting on twitter for the entire world to see like shouting down the street, or is it like paying to have something run in the paper, or is it like saying it on TV? Sites like twitter are a new thing and need a new thought process. Never before have the general public been able to spout their bile so thoughtlessly to so many, and generally the attitude is "you can do what you like on the internet".

I think Twitter would have handed over the IP address and the ISP's are obliged to hand over the details when the cops come knocking with said IP address.
