BBC News - Petrol prices hit another record high

Luckily my current role is walking distance from home but if I was filling up every week I would be getting seriously peed off right now....

Is history going to repeat itself with petrol prices preceeding a recession like a few years ago?

My question is how much longer and more can people be squeezed before the whole system comes to a crash again?

Judging by how busy the roads are petrol is still quite cheap.

Compared to the cost of housing, petrol is almost free. Roads are absolutely packed. Add 50p duty FFS.

I'm thinking that with budgets squeezed there will be very few people taking driving holidays this year. I'm betting that more will fly abroad than stay in the UK. Especially witht the Olympics in town and the chaos...could be a dry summer for theme parks, resorts and hotels in the UK. Some are saying that the high fuel cots is affecting mobility for job seekers.

I've been speaking with the neighbours and a few have gone down to one car. I've just put the wife's car up for sale. we've gone down to only essential driving.


It seems to me that the conservatives are doing exactly the opposite of what economic theory tells them..splurge massively at the start of a recession to get out quicker. This austerity bollux will only drag it out for another five years, if we are lucky.
