She has the ones which were popular as pets back in the day.

Did you know that they used to use them as ballast on ships?
That's why everybody seemed to have one - there were so many of them.

Just around the corner from me.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

            Nice. Where's that? Weston?

There's a nice one at Locking:

I think there's another one between Aston Clinton and Tring. My memory might be playing tricks, but if there is that might be the best bet.

There are some good ones along the A6 between Kettering and Bedford:

and more generally dotted around that area of Bedfordshire:

It is indeed! My friend Bob is in charge of the birds there. In fact, he is possibly the country's leading ornithologist, and a stoic opening batsman to boot.

Actually there's a funny story there. We used to be in a local quiz league team together, and questions often popped up about collective names for types of bird. Of course, everyone expected Bob to know the answer. But he rarely did because collective names for types of bird has little to do with real ornithology, no more so than different ways of cooking a duck. He used to get most upset when we all turned to him and said "Come on Bob, what is it? Don't let us down now!" How we laughed!

I used to pass a couple of them every day on the way to work. Shooters Way in Berkhamsted is a nice one, which I pass on my way to the A41 dual carriageway. And the one in Gaddesden Row, which I sometimes use to get to Hemel Hempstead. After reading of this chap's enthusiasm I'll certainly look at them in a different light next time.
Here's the one in Berkhamsted. He's a beauty, don't you think?
