    Best country

Having lived in many countries (Telecom/Satalite contractor) I can tell you that it isnt always greener on the other side. UK would be half way up my list but there are always drawbacks , higher cost of education , high rents , higher taxes.

Tax in Australia (top rate) is 47 % and then you have to pay superannuation (9%) , you dont get left much. In addition you will find Tasmania a bit cold and wet.

US is a great place to live but I've never felt safe there , dont know what it is but both me and missus have alsways had an uneasy feeling , if we could both get past that then US would be a good bet , tax is about same as here when you add it all up. North Carolina fantastic properties for 200K dollar.

Singapore flippin marvelous but as virtually everyone else is Chineese hard to meet people , not that there is anything wrong with Chineese but they do stick with there own and missus wanted to meet people with similar background. Also not very cheap average (non govt owned house ) about 3500 sing dollar (1000 quid per month) rental.

India very hot , sticky and cheap (but getting more expensive) fair number of Brits there but overall not a prefered destination because of regular power cuts , poor sanitation or none , food expensive (import stuff like beer unless you can drink Kingfisher or Tiger beer (Yuk!)), no night life except in bigger cities which are quite expensive.

Europe Munich is a great place , avoid Austria (boring) , and France OK but no better than UK really , same for Belgium . Switzerland expensive but nice especially if you like skiing.

Japan Frickin expensive dont bother unless your on 500 plus a day inc exenses, nice tho especially Tokyo harbour but dont look at prices there you would be better off in Kyoto or Kobi.

Canada great place but very cold and few contracts that pay decent rates , land property very cheap and if you can withstand the cold then its a great outdoors place to live.

South America Mexico OK but hated the food , Peru very unsafe in cities robbery is not even reported its just too common , Rio nice place but getting very expensive good option for retirement but dont expect too much from local bobby.

In which case the Isle of Man becomes the location of choice. All the benefits of the UK, but far lower taxes

Just do what everybody else does, stay in NZ for a couple of years until you get a passport and then move to Oz

If you're well minted there's always Jersey and Guernsey. Nice and quaint but not stuck in the middle of the Irish sea!

If you are really hard up and you like somewhere small and cosy there is always sealand http://www.sealandgov.com/

Sealand was founded on the principle that any group of people dissatisfied with the oppressive laws and restrictions of existing nation states may declare independence in any place not claimed to be under the jurisdiction of another sovereign entity.
Anyone got a list of any place not claimed to be under the jurisdiction of another sovereign entity?

All the benefits of the UK? Good browsing bookshops, range of ethnic restaurants, cinemas showing good films (not just latest Hollywood), cheap flights to many countries .... or is it what Chandler called a "mail-order" place: anything you can get there, you can get better by mail order?

Being a family guy I was thinking more along the lines of schools, medical care, culture and language, employment etc. But yes, IoM does have most of those things as well. Including over 100 restaurents for starters, 2 cinemas etc.
