Just went to first tri oak training swimming session. Coach set some exercises. Afterwards I was asked how I felt. "My chest hurts on left side. I think I have aggrevated old chest injury. Coach - "You are just be breathing on one side. Try using both sides." And she is right!

At the moment the most important in lake swimming as I am still not convinced I can make it. Max so far is 1800m. I can do 3.86k in the pool no problem.
So far I have avoided Weil's disease.....Comment

Keep chipping away at it and it will come, as long as you make the distance in training with fresh legs for the bike, adrenaline will get you there on the day .... if you are after a bit of confidence, look at the NY triathlon on utube - they are in the hudson breaststroking with noodles under their arms ...
regarding sickness and injury - perhaps abit of research on nutrition to facilitate recovery and ensure you are eating right? I take quite a lot of supplements to help me bounce back, there is a good chapter on nutrition in Chris Mccormacks book that may help - its quite a funny book too? High 5 is being provided on the course, are you training with it?Comment

I am training with high 5. A bit expensive but necessary.
I find the bigger issue is wanting to get training too quick and that I dont tend to stop when it hurts. Though last week I had stomach pains. I thought it was something I ate - I certainly did not feel hungry. I now think it was stress and felt better as soon as I started training. So that is a day missed.
I could not cycle this morning so going to the gym lunchtime. Then lake swimming tonight.
And please please keep the advice coming - much appreciated.Comment

Just been invited to take part in a race tomorrow night - The Bridge Aquathlon | Bridge Events Dartford | Home of the Midnight WO/MAN - 750m open water swim, 6km run.
Only thing is I have been told I should complete within the hour which might be tough!
But it is free and all good practice.Comment

So presumably you did not hear about my first open water swim when the rescue boat had to escort me to shore?
Then they laughed at my "wet suit". It was £25 and was in fact a surfing suit! I had to spend £230 on a triathalon wet suit!
But after the first week I am slowly improving.
Do you think I need to take any high 5 during the race? I reckon it is too short. I am going to eat at 4pm then after the race. Any suggestions?Comment

If you consider it takes about 15mins for a gel to hit your legs, 45 mins for a snickers bar... and work from there. Anything over an hour I'll usually add something.
Some folks have digestion issues in the heat, so if you are planning on hammering the run perhaps a swig of high 5 before you start to test it?
Personally, probaby a coffee and a couple of biscuits about 45 mins before start .... and a steak and a pint afterComment
