Married accountant stole £250,000 from clients to splash out on luxury treats for blonde model mistress | Mail Online
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

No, SKA Ltd changed to in house contractor accountant in 2010, however it has to be said that during that time Darren's staff including himself and Tina did what was needed quickly and I am really shocked to read such things that came up: my original thought was that he was stupid to get into that currency scheme and the fact that majority of money were recovered pointed to bad stupid gamble rather than anything else.

The real sad part in my view is Tina's child and herself - they had nice business with 800 people paying £50+ per month can easily generate £500k+ turnover with big part being profit. This is nice business and who'd change accountant often?

My sympathy also goes to those who got affected by the fraud like BagPuss - from my end I always took the view that any payments to HMRC would be done by me using account numbers provided by HMRC.

But when you trusted accountant sends you the details in an email detailing account name HMRC, but the wrong account details... are you sure you would notice - even check?

Bet if we had paid by crossed cheque he would not have got anything.... don't you just love automated bank transfers... no validation...

The key is once you sign someone off as an agent, you basically give them authority to act for you. It's a bit like giving someone your pin number, you may not have intended for them to empty your bank account but the bank will always blame you rather than them, and any recompense becomes a matter for the police.

However what he did as only recently been possible. As my local inspector of taxes said "he found a loophole in the online system". Previously returns had to be signed off on a paper form, submitting a null return was less easy.

Daily Mail Fail. Picture of house, but no house price shocker!

P.S. In that second piccie Frau Fraenzel does look quite tidy.

The real sad part? ... are those businesses that are still suffering or have gone out of business because of this and the innocent families of the employees/directors who's lives he has completely messed up.
