For some reason, the FA seem to think that we need someone English to manage the team, because only someone English can understand the English game.

Unfortunately, they haven't realised that the English game gets constantly trounced by the European game or the World game. And that you might want the best manager to manage the team, regardless of nationality.

A consistent good showing in the champions league says otherwise, admittedly no-one has managed to translate that to the national setup though.

That's because in national team they have to work with the players they have where as playing in the Champions League usually means they can afford to buy very good players from around the world.

Perhaps English Premier League should have 21st club that is comprised of English National Team members and they play every week: players will have to choose either big money playing for other clubs or possible glory by playing in national team.

They're still playing the English game no mater where they're from, some very good foreign players can't cope with the pace and physical aspect of the EPL and take a long time to adjust.

I think the problem is that national team players don't play in the same team often enough - look at Barcelona and how many of their players were at the same time in national team.
