I left home at 5:35am, made it to the office, 56 miles from home at 8am.

Two and a half hour commute due to being stranded for over an hour for the 5 miles between Halifax and Brighouse. 12 Mile stationery traffic built up behind me within half an hour.

Three lanes down to one lane for overnight roadworks rocking into 8am on a busy Monday morning.

Did anyone else fall victim to this shining example of car mis-management?

I normally work around 7-3 ish because of the traffic problems later on in the morning, hence usually leave aroud 6:10am.

Because of the average speed cameras, and needing to leave even earlier, plus the need to bank some time to get to my Friday evening commitment, I am having to leave arond the 5:45 mark just to get to work before 7.

No sign of the problems on the BBC travel website from my blackberry, nor from the AA travelwatch number. Had I known I would have come off at Halifax when the motorway ground to a halt, with the next exit after it goes down to just the one lane.

Didn't say it wasn't important did I, but it might have helped if they'd warned of lane closures which were before the A1(M) junction.

Certainly didn't help anyone that wanted to exit at jn26

            Stated at 05:30.
            Drove 500km.
Only problem was gawkers at a crash site on the opposite direction. (A car had jumped over the guard rain , turned up side down and caught fire)
Total of 15 km roadworks where the are only 2 lanes and a limit of 80 km/h.
The gridlock at the Basel border was as usual.
Biggest problem was finding a parking spot on arrival.
Total travel time including 2 breaks was 6 hours flat.
Will collect 150 EUR in "mileage" compensation for this morning. Spent 80 EUR on filling up with petrol once entered CH.

            Getting plenty of coffee now.
