Right, I'm off down the rugby club and, if our game is off, we stay in the clubhouse and watch France and Italy as an hors d'euvre before England and Scotland.
Let's wish for some good competitive egg-chasing!Comment

Right about the brothel although I was sure that was a Scotch try that was disallowed.Originally posted by Alf W View PostThe Scottish couldn't score in a brothel. Wooden spoon for them I think based on todays games.
But they weren't bad otherwise, so surely Italy for the wooden spoon after some of their powderpuff tackling today. Anyone see the second French try? Five missed tackles in five seconds, then two more as he went over the line.Comment

No way was that a try!Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostRight about the brothel although I was sure that was a Scotch try that was disallowed.

It wasn't controlled and was there actually any Scottish contact with the ball when it went to ground?
We need to work on some of areas but overall encouraging for a new team

a brush by a shirt sleeve does not a try make. it would have been an absolute disgrace if that had been awarded.Comment

It was enough contact to stop the ball rolling forward, a try in my book.Originally posted by DS23 View Posta brush by a shirt sleeve does not a try make. it would have been an absolute disgrace if that had been awarded.
A brush with a shirt would not do that, and furthermore the scotchman who did it would not have felt a brush with a shirt and so wouldn't have appealed.
Hodgson's try wasn't clearcut either, he only just got contact with the ball while it was in contact with the ground, but that was rightly awarded.
Still, the video ref disallowed the scotch one and, being a Nigel myself, I'm not complaining.

The rule is "downward pressure", not how much. Something stopped the ball moving and the only thing touching it was the player's hand. So personally I would have awarded it. The video ref didn't so that's the end of it.Originally posted by Troll View PostNo way was that a try!

However neither side impressed me in the slightest. Losing a match with the possesion and territorial advantage the Scots had is unforgiveable, especially against a team as ill-prepared and panicky as England were. Of the four teams I've seen so far, only France look capable of playing a coherent game. Let's see how it goes this afternoon, but while I suspect Ireland will be missing the two-man team they've played behind for so long, some of the other guys will take the chance to shine.
Although I really hope the Welsh carry on where they left off. If they do, on the evidence so far, they will be difficult to stop. I'll miss the final Wales/France game 'cos I'll be in NZ, but I'm betting that will be for the championship.Blog? What blog...?
