I get whatever the child benefit thing all parents get is. I've never had to claim unemployment benefits and wouldn't really know how to.
But the most important benefit I've ever received is thanks to the NHS. Without them I would be a single father.Comment

Claimed income support between graduating, getting married and then getting a job. £150 in total, or thereabouts.
Never been dependent on it. Wife's family were for a long time after they'd entered the UK as refugees, but once their youngest kid had left school, they did a council house swap, started working, bought a house, started their own business.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

I was on UB for 1 week. But I got some part-time work after that. I seem to remember this was just before starting university. I preferred to work - but I was desperate for beer tokens.Comment

When I left college after miserably failing my A levels I got "supplementary benefit" of £23.60 per week for three months whilst I did my Government Sponsored TOPS computer programming course.....Ah 1983, I remember it well.......my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

It is truly amazing what concoctions you can come up with, with a tin and a few bits. What works well and what doesnt
Spaghetti hoops - with cheese melted in
Baked beans - with an oxo cube
Ravioli - curry powder and chille flakes
Spag Bol - on its own on toast
corned beef - fried in cheese
Irish stew - loads of black pepper
Tomato soup - loads of black pepper
all with chips and bread
Tried chappie once, but the daughter found the tin and cried because I told her that I had to take her new dog back because it peed on the living room carpet
home brew
home made wine
