Depends what you mean by getting above their station! There are some contributors here (not necessarily IT contractors) who do fall into the seriously rich list. I believe one of our accountants was in the press selling his 12 million quid house last year. Some of the IT types are selling real products to big customers. We are not all coding whores. My guess is the majority 90%+ are, but there are a few special ones here.
I would also guess that most are pulling 80K upwards. Though we may not be mega rich we are in the well off bracket (DA keeps telling us we are in the top 1%).
You may also note that we are a sarcastic bunch who enjoy living up to the stereotype.

Thanks for your constructive post and I agree some of the most intelligent and wealthy people do indeed work in IT.

However, browsing jobserve I'd suggest the average daily rate is around the £200 mark at the moment.

Enough, yes, for a good standard of living, and independence, but hardly worth getting too carried away with.

I prefer to go direct but not always possible.
