Just 10 years ago the internet, smartphones and social networking weren't mainstream. What will the next decade bring I wonder.

Most definitely the internet. So many things from those Compuserve chat rooms 15 odd years ago and early filesharing over ICQ to learning university modules online 1 week before the exam because I hadn't bothered to go to the lectures to internet shopping and social media nowadays... it's significantly shaped my life.

Probably an increase in Co2 levels whilst latterly the deforestation of most of Brazil to make way for farting coos.

                  Yes that really stands out.

                    Good, let's hope it does.

Every generation likes to feel they are making some original contribution to culture and science etc.
In our age of rapid discovery and innovation we can hardly imagine what a curse it will be if nothing has ever been forgotten and can be recalled instantly, and there is (or everyone assumes there is, with nobody able to disprove it) little more to add or say or sing.

Maybe in the end that will be one of the biggest spurs to space exploration beyond the solar system - A wish to find some variety in nature elsewhere, and escape the burden of all those archives of the past.

The question again, blind git, is: What's the biggest change the world has seen in your lifetime?

                      Not you.
