No offense, but look up the odds of bungie cords snapping. Then russian roulette, if you're the first one to take a turn, it's still a 1 in 6 odds or maybe a little more depending on your handgun choice .....

What about the odds of being struck by lightning compared to the cord snapping? Would wager lightning is more likely to happen ...
I couldn't help reading your post in the voice of comic book guy from the Simpsons

I was in Zambia last year - I stayed at a hotel next to the Victoria Falls - highly recommended!
If its the same bungee jump im thinking of, the talk of "croc infested waters" is a bit far fetched, as they do white water rafting in the same stretch of river...

For a croc to live there, it would either have had to survive a drop over the Victoria Falls (possible if its still a baby) or bother to swim up river (not sure they can be bothered) which is why its safe for white water rafters who fall in the water all of the time!... and its also the same place Bear Grylls jumped into the water when he was in Zambia.

Glad she's safe, but yet again, the press have made a big deal over somthing...

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

She is taking her life in to her own hands going to Zimbabwe let alone doing a bungee jump, they are not renowned for their attitude towards health and saftey.

Thanks for explaining all that in such helpful detail.

I thought it might be a joke, but couldn't be sure.

Why? Tourist areas are actually pretty safe.

That site has been operational for 10 years and this is the first incident ever. Having been there, I think approach is no different from other operations of this nature.

Very lucky girl. Hitting water from an 11 metre free fall after accelerating from the platform would probably be fatal if the surface hadn't been broken by the current.

If this type of incident was a bit less rare they would do well to inform the potential victims of how to get to the side of the river when trapped in a current, where normal swimming isn't going to be that effective especially with legs tied.

The method I've seen that seems most effective is to swing your arms to the side while doing a barrel roll so you're paddling sideways. This draws you to the side of the river and hopefully into an eddy where you can get onto the river bank.

Worth remembering if you're ever in a real life remake of Deliverance.
