Ssd's may be a technological leap forward but they are less complex.
Traditional hdd's have an earth magnet, spindle motor, arm and the platters have a low tolerance to atmospheric dust. In short, they are more complex to produce needing clean rooms and there is more to go wrong in the drives.
Ssd's however are just chips on a pcb in short. They may be newer technology but they are less complex to manufacturer and don't have moving parts, thus environmental factors such as shocks are less likely to cause damage.
I hope so, the dishwasher control unit went pop on xmas day.
Now I can't decide whether I should risk buying another part for £105 which may go pop again or just get a new dishwasher??
It just seems wrong to scrap an otherwise good appliance just because a circuit board (which should only be a few quid) costs so much.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
Are you just being a troll or were the other sentences a bit too long for you?
Look numpty, I know in your tape changing world things are all easy but basically in ship manufacturing process level determines actual cost of production which if necessary can be shifted to more profitable niches.
SSDs are very cheap now - that is unless you need proper SLC enterprise stuff.
Yes state of the art 2x nm process manufacturing is very easy and trivial
Did i say the words easy or trivial? no i didn't.
What i said is ssd's are:
- less prone to shock damage
- there are less components in them than traditional drives
- ssd's don't require assembly of parts in a highly controlled environment
i fail to see how you can't grasp that. Probably due to your lack of experience in the sector.

do you actually have a valid point or just silly insults?
