I would put 6 Feet Under at number 3 myself. Not seen The West Wing yet

You will also be introduced to "Gangstagrass" it was a new music genre to me.

Recently come by the entire 6 seasons of HBO's Oz.

I watched quite a few random intermittent episodes back in the day, forgot how good it was.

Just started on Season 1 Episode 1. Gonna be a while.

              "Low winter sun"

I was going to say a re-make of "The Wire"

But more like a new season of "The Wire" with all new actors.

              Mixed cast. Check
Located in a rundown part of large American city. Check
              Very rundown cop shop. Check
Storyline includes drugs, junkies and mob boss. Check
At least one murder per episode. Check

Is it any good though? That's the key feature of The Wire.

Just started watching Luther, wondering if I should get into The Wire as well.

It's worth it just to see Idris Elba as a Baltimore gangster. I saw the The Wire before I knew he was English and it still seems weird hearing his natural accent now.

Edit: It's also the best TV show ever, so that makes it worthwhile too.
