But if you research the market you can apply direct and cut out the parasite.
Gosh, hasn't the bottom fallen out of the UK market. It's equivalent to £50 - £70 ph in Denmark for Java+J2EE+experience. Telecoms, finance and pharma are the main clients.

If you're only staying for a year, why would you want to pay tax?

      £8?!?!?!!!

Well, for my circumstances a damned sight better than the UK.

Us UNIX guys get paid around that mark in the UK. It's a tulip load more stable than any other field as well (I delve into .Net occasionally as well and get different offers all over the shop).

              Pahhh!

MVS Systems Programmers were never 'common stuff' - we were bloody demigods! The techiest of the techs. Application progs and managers had to beg on thier knees for the crumbs of wisdom that fell from our table - and all our best work was done in the pub.

Do you think that developing asm code to customize MVS (or JES2/3 etc.) and writing channel programs is 'common stuff'?

Wha am I bothering? You clearly have no idea what I'm talking about Francko.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Is Java developer a euphamism for making coffee? £10 per hour is not bad for the Tea lad (or apprentice as we used to call them).

Gosh £35/hr - beats Access programming by a mile! But then my client keeps begging for me to sign nine month contract extensions...I think I've become too comfortable.

Excuse me, my name is Francko Patel and I am certified in MVS, JES2/3, channel programming and I have 13 years of experience in that. My rate is 8 pounds an hour. Will I find contract in UK?
