I know that, but I was asking the OP. Perhaps the answer is to change the design so that it's symmetrical. Then everyone will be happy.

What are everyone elses thoughts on this? Does the fact that someone complaining about flying the national flag pisses me right off make me a racist?
I thought it was the Union Flag, and that it is only called a Jack when on a boat?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

          Take your pick

          References

*"'Union Jack' was officially acknowledged as an alternative name for the Union Flag by the Admiralty and Parliament in the early 20th century. The term 'jack' refers to the flag that is flown from the bowsprit of a ship, often denoting nationality."

The Union Flag is commonly known as the Union Jack, although the exact origin of the name is unclear. One explanation is that it gets its name from the "jack staff" of naval vessels from which the original Union Flag was flown.
Prime Minister David Cameron | Number 10 Downing Street - The official site of the British Prime Minister

Historian David Starkey said in that Channel 4 tv programme that the Union Flag is called 'Jack' because it is named after James l of Great Britain (Jacobus , Latin for James), who introduced the flag following his accession to the throne.
          Just saying like.

The thing is that the guy who complained has a point - the Union Jack has become a symbol of some far right groups.

Perhaps the question should be how do we reclaim the Union Jack from the far right groups?

Though these days I am ashamed to be British. Several hundred years of leading the world and now we sit back and watch as our competitive advantage goes to Asia. Soon as the kids are old enough I intend to move to a decent country.

Can get a cracking 20 foot flag pole off Amazon for just £30 or so - very tempted to get my own flag pole...... That is guaranteed to piss off my freindly neighbour!!

Just need to decide on the flag - I am thinking of St Andrews flag as I am half Scottish, but skull and crossbones has a certain appal to it......

Use our separate national flags - English, Scottish, etc?

The only place I've lived with a lot of "national pride" is Cornwall. Quite common to see flags and so on there.

I thought it was just the St Georges Cross which had been mis-appropriated by the far right nutters.
The union jack still gets waved around a lot for the queen/proms etc

Shirley that would be local pride unless Cornwall has now become a nation
