Well, strictly speaking a pureplay business analyst is expressing business requirements in a manner that can be used to develop new and/or amended designs.
Hence knowing how the physical hardware and software works is not necessary.
Back in the real world, BAs are generally re-badged SAs who need knowledge of the physical system to do an effective, timely job.
Another reason we are struggling.
Point taken in other posts - we only have the SMEs word for it they are as strung out as they say they are... Not sure what we can do about that as we are in a different office 100 miles away and the SMEs all work for a major subcontractor not the client. The BAs work for the Client. The developers are in 3 different cities in India.

I thought mushroom management went out with MRPII. Do the developers work for the client or the subby?
