The railways lose a lot of working days to drivers who have witnessed a person being killed by a train, either suicides or accidents; many drivers apparently need quite a bit of help to deal with the shock and get back to work again.

I have seen some of the vids on tubes of people getting caught in the gap and dragged the entire length of the platform before the bit that got caught gets ripped off. I imagine it was a pretty long drawn out messy affair.

Apparently, when people fail to ' mind the gap' and fall into it, their lower body can be twisted round and round as the train moves along the platform, while their upper body remains stuck to the train. Result is that when the train stops they are still alive as the lower part of the body is twisted rather like a tourniquet holding the blood in the upper part of the body. They are alive, feel no pain as the spinal chord is broken at the twist point, and can converse with ambulancemen and first aiders, but have to be informed that as soon as they are released from this position, the blood will leave their upper body and they will die. Some take the opportunity to phone loved ones while they can. Apparently, ambulancemen are somewhat upset that due to 'elf and safety' regulations they are nowadays unable to offer the individual a cigarette, as was customary in the past.

It is always a tragic damn shame when anyone dies especially someone so young

but to be honest getting on a train is a pretty simple task and you are constantly reminded to mind the gap....

maybe Darwin was onto something?

Eleven o'clock on a Saturday Night, I'd imagine that alcohol may have been involved. Such a shame, she was so pretty and had her whole life ahead. It's every parents nightmare.
