        one possibility noone has mentioned yet . . .

        governments don't like BB encrypted messaging system means they can't spy on citizens

        so a few months after BBM gets blamed as a tool used by rioters, the whole system goes down for 2-3 days, could it be possible that now that it's back up BB's encryption might not be so great anymore

        can't believe that an org the size of RIM with that many users would have a single point of failure and no resilience network

        just another possibility
