          Yes I was thinking sandy bridge but then I had a google to see what else is on the horizon and it seems these are due mid november. It sounds silly but with 8GB in my desktop and 8GB in my laptop and both of them running 6GB VMs at once I'm starting to think 16GB might seem a little restrictive in 6 months time.

              Probably one of the few scenarios where it makes sense to upgrade to the quad channel Sandy Bridge while not needing server grade kit.

              As you say earlier in the thread, it's a reasonably cheap way to get over 16gb ram using current el cheapo 4gb sticks.
