Apart from the usual suspects, I recall reading 'Volcano adventure', 'pacific island adventure', etc. There was a series of them, no idea who wrote them and not sure about that second title. Hubbard, Asimov, Clark, Niven, hmm, probably quite a few more. And Ladybird books before that.
Willard Price. Think I read the who series as a nipper
Enjoyed most things Enid Blyton, Arthur Ransome, C S Lewis, Rumer Godden and anything I could get my mitts on really, except the Hobbit. It's the only book I can remember not finishing.
When I was quite young I read the Jennings and Darbyshire books by Anthony Buckeridge. When I got a bit older, I read all Spike Milligan's books, his war memoirs are an awesome read.

The 'William' books, all the classics - Tom Brown's Schooldays, Robinson Crusoe etc. Moved on the the James Bond books accompanied by any sci-fi I could get my hands on. Borrowed my father's library card to get access to decent non-fiction especially astronomy and general science books.
