Will post more tomorrow once I know how much kind British banks will lend me to buy it
I've bought it and converted it into 4 flats. Now pay up on time like a good lad and there won't be any trouble.

Could be a bargain available if the landlord was mortgagd and the lenders just want their money back.

Make an insulting offer to start with as per some other posts.

There is always the office if you have nowhere to stay.
Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.

Is AtW making a mistake? Is owning a flat too much hassle these days (see any other doom related flat owing thread). Is it silly to pay remotely near what desperate liquidators are offering as a 'bargain price'. Is now, after 10 years of a housing bubble and on the brink of economic collapse, a great time to buy? What kind of tenants are going to be moving in to this place - council placements? Is the remainder of the property going to be vacant, with just AtW paying the maintenance charge and running the management company single handedly, plus the awkward tenant above needing to be taken to court. Are my questions biased? Do we need a poll?

          WHS

AtW has worked hard since those long days ago when he stepped off the boat with his squirrel skin suitcase and knotted hanky on a stick containing his one and only potato.

Now he has two potatoes and a sofa. I'd hate for him to chance it all on a whim of Thatcherism and buy his own flat only for Birmingham to be hit by a large asteriod and the housing market to collapse.

Scary stuff indeed. [insert knocking knees smiley]

If the housing market collapses that is fine as if you don't want to move.

I would never take on a flat again, would rather buy a house, too much hassle when something goes wrong with the building.

HOMEOWNERS were given a major boost yesterday with a new round of cheap mortgage deals as the 90 per cent loan returns to the market.

Before buying a flat I'd see what houses are available at a similar price (or maybe slightly more if more space will be handy) in case you can get better value for money.

Don't forget flats always have service charges, normal houses don't so will be a saving of potentially thousands per year in running costs.

There are other benefits to a house over a flat too. More space, own garden(s), private parking, fewer immediate neighbours, more privacy, more potential to expand.

                    Aye.

Their price seems very reasonable for the area and the flats are in new building, gated with parking - brand new kitchen, the works - rents out at £1k easily but having mortgage might be about the same or less... they said it was attempted to get sold last year for 50% more in price - probably true
