Done it quite a few times(200 odd trips), closest to Ealing I've done into Acton, a few miles away and I've done it from starting at Andover, Junctions 3 and 4 on the M3.

Fleet services slows down and is annoying and then the approach to juntion 3 (Bracknell) is a real pain, thats where you can get the snag. Past that is fine, slow at Heathrow(use the heathrow slip on the way back) then M4 is good all the way down. There's a right shortcut at the Porsche garage that takes you through Chiswick this is the quickest route to avoid traffic.

Before 7.30 is not bad, 7.30-8.45 is just awful, and then leaving at 8.45 it's almost like there's no traffic. I used to arrive into the office for 10am and leave 6.30pm missing the traffic that way.

You can also cut the back route from Camberley up to Heathrow and then cut through, but thats for bad traffic days only.

Destination is Hanger Lane, which is North Circular I think.

I'd join M3 at 4A, so would miss Fleet services. Or could go A30. Looks like M3 to Sunbury then across via Richmond is a shorter route, but that would probably be worse for traffic.

      Boom boom.

I guess he used a bus lane.

Everything tells me it would be a complete nightmare, but agent tells me it's nowhere near as bad as people imagine.

Job looks good - the only thing putting me off is the location. Train looks like a no-goer.

A30 is just slow & a real pain. M3 to Sunbury is is fantastic, really fast(completely clear after the M25 junction) after Teddington turnoff is slow. Sunbury turnoff is a grind though(Thinking I've done Ealing maybe half a dozen times). If you start at Camberly though, maybe OK.

From Odiham it's 45 minutes - 1.15 dependent on traffic & whether you want to hit 100mph on an empty road. Worst is when there's a crash 5 hours home is my worst and you'll get at least a 2/3 hour each month. Always around 2hrs round per day I suppose though.

I used to check to see if the motorway was clear before heading off or then deciding whether the A30 would be better.

Thanks MF - anything less than an hour sounds OK, so definitely a possibility!

              Where you starting from?

I'm surprised you say the train is a no goer.

Hanger Lane? You could just top yourself now and save yourself the journey.

Is there no driving to a train / tube station and training the rest of the way plan that works?

                  WHS.

For example Slough to Ealing is 22 minutes on the train. To drive it in rush hour will range for 1 to 15 hours journey time depending on the weather and how many s crash their cars that day.

Possibly. I've got 3 train lines within striking distance - shortest journey was 1:30. Add 30 minutes getting to/from station and it's too long. An hour is really my max - at least until I get a bit desparate!

Nearest station is Blackwater (walkable). So route is via Reading. 1:30 + walk to/from station at each end. Camberley and Farnborough stations both reachable but no better journey-wise. Guess it would be an option if I knew about the car crashes before leaving home.
