That was a completely different offence, what the facebook lot did was try to incite others to commit an indictable offence (i.e. a serious one), it shouldn't matter how that message is conveyed, whether it be on the internet or standing outside a pub rounding up some local chavs."I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith

Well they got caught on facebook and believe it or not, most people don't go checking legislation and previous court cases prior to any idiot action.Coffee's for closersComment

Criminal law embodies the rules that defines conduct which is held to threaten, harm or in someway endanger the safety and/or welfare of society as a whole. Civil law sets out the conduct with which private parties interact with each other.Originally posted by dang65 View PostThe only thing it doesn't have in common is the technicality of the law as it currently exists.
It's got nothing to do with technicality, they are completely different areas. How on earth can you compare someone's shop getting burned down and someone possibly losing their life to Acme Inc losing a couple of thousand pound in revenue.
How on earth do you extract that from my post??Originally posted by dang65 View PostAre you suggesting that we have reached some kind of legal Nirvana at this moment in time? That no laws should be challenged or changed from now on because they are all perfect as they stand?"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. It's a well know saying, but ignorance of the law is no defence.Originally posted by Spacecadet View PostWell they got caught on facebook and believe it or not, most people don't go checking legislation and previous court cases prior to any idiot action.
Getting back to the argument though, we know that some of these events were being orchestrated through social media. Why should these idiots not be dealt with the way they were? Do you honestly believe they should only have been punished if the riot actually took place?
It's called preventative action on the part of the police to try and stop incidents escalating. If Joe Bloggs goes out of his house intent on robbing a bank, but gets stopped by the police do you think he should be let off because the actual offence hasn't been committed?"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith
