glad someone got it, I thought the Baby P guy was given a far too lenient sentence....

it's hard to work out whether 4 years for the facebook 2 is appropriate or not when complete scumbags like the baby p killer get the same sentence.....

He got 11,9 and 7 years to run concurrently for kidnap, possession of a firearm and threats to kill. He served 5.5 years.

Sure glad I hadn;t been out drinking with him that day.
      Omar he aint!

a friend of a friend got started on by some guy one night so smacked him back, guy went down smacked his head on pavement and died, guy ended up going down for manslaughter and all he was doing was defending himself...

The Facebook two will obviously appeal, let's see how they and others get on later in the year where the appeals
court will no doubt cut the sentences and
        pay out compensation.

And there's your problem, right there. Other people's views and opinions are ridiculed not respected. It is a widespread problem - we are an angry, divided, antagonistic, confrontational society full of people who are quick to judge others. I haven't heard a single person being an apologist for rioters and looters (except maybe a couple of their Mums), but that doesn't stop people being accused of it.

Philosophy. He had a long time to think about it.

I'm hoping this will set a precedent.

Caught speeding on the motorway? That's 15 years for causing death by dangerous driving. What do you mean, you didn't even have an accident? You were driving too fast. Down you go.

A month late paying your company tax and NICs? 12 years inside for tax evasion, fraud and failure to pay millions of pounds owed to the Treasury. Sorry? It was 800 pounds, and you did pay it, just a bit late? No, you are clearly guilty of major financial crime. Bad luck, but it will send a clear message to other tax dodgers.

Now, on to this parking fine. We note that your parked car might have obstructed fire engines from reaching the burning children's hospital down the road and 200 new born babies might have died in the flames, along with several promising medical students with their whole lives in front of them (our thoughts and prayers would be with their families, if this had actually happened). GUILTY! [*dons black cap*]

One of the Facebookers is going to appeal. Personally it'd be a great idea to give anyone who uses facebook 4 years.

The sentance seems fair to me.

These two muppets tried to get a gang of losers to riot, leading in all likelyhood of not hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage.
It would take us contractors years to pay back that amount of money in our work, so why should these idiots not be similarly inconvenienced by a spell in jail of a similar length of time.

Your argument bares absolutely no reference to what the idiots were convicted of. They pled guilty under sections 44 and 46 of the Serious Crime Act 2007 to intentionally encouraging another to assist the commission of an indictable offence.

They have been convicted and given penalties for those offences. Your example is someone being found guilty of an offence (a) yet being given the penalty for a separate offence (b). It doesn't work like that, unfortunately though for this argument, the penalties for offences under ss. 44-46 of the Serious Crime Act 2007 can be the same as if you actually carried out the act yourself. However, you are not being given the penalty of offence (b) for committing offence (a), it just happens that the penalty for offence (a) can match that for offence (b).

As usual the liberals with no back bone are having a moan that the sentences are out of proportion.

What we we should be moaning about is that the other crooks are serving too little time behind bars.

Thankfully the judges are listening to the people this time.
Sending them to jail, means they come out with more criminal intent having learnt new methods in crime
                      Fine them
                      Tag them
                      Place under curfew
Confiscate their iphone, computer or whatever equipment, they used for their participation in "Anti-social media",
                      sell for recycling in Africa
Fine their parents and put them all on probation order for 5 years.
Make them sign a pledge that if they default, they lose all human rights.
If they default, chain to refuse sorting conveyor, stale bread and water
