I have loads of stories about Cyprus. Did you know the temperature "officially" never used to go above 90f because above that temperature civil servants could go home early.

At least the DDT got rid of malaria. Regarding asbestos,
      I found this for you:

Stepping off the plane in Africa, a mixture of charcoal smoke and sweet smelling flowery hits you. Every time you think "Great to be back here again".

But let's not forget the UK.

Leaves burning on a crisp and sunny autumn day,
Or the smell of freshly mown hay,
That mix of petrol and freshly mown lawn on a hot summer's day,
The scent of heather on the moors where it's also peacefully quiet,
The aroma of a rose garden, and the tinkling of a stream,
The smell of smoke from log fires as it drifts down the dale,
        All these things are pleasant.

Reality check: it's usually pouring down and too cold to enjoy

          Indonesia smelt nice
The jungley bit I was in stunk of oil. Waste from the oil and gas extraction plant just ended up in big pits. Wandered round Medan and that stunk of fungus.

I was in Romania in 1985, commie time, the whole place and everyone seemed to stink of Roast Chicken Crisps, so much so I can't stand them now.
