What's good in high dividend if you stand a chance to lose your capital?Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostComment

It provides an indication of which stocks may slide more than others. Bearing in mind this drop is an anomaly it's a good indication of which are oversold and which will rebound if you assume that the actual economy itself doesnt grind to a halt.Originally posted by AtW View PostWhat's good in high dividend if you stand a chance to lose your capital? What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

Nope.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostIt provides an indication of which stocks may slide more than others.
It gives you idea which company's directors try to use higher than others dividend payout in order to make their stock attractive to buyers like yourself.
Here is example Cable and Wireless:

In 18 months they lost over 50% of share price, sure dividend yield might be great but you need to visit doctor if you plan to invest in it.

Different scenario for C&W. I bought in for the divvy, took it and bailed straight out. They then decided that it was unsustainable, sacked the board and halved it. You do have to ensure that the business paying the divvy is paying from profit and not being stupid. Like C&W.Originally posted by AtW View PostNope.
