But do talk to your pimp.
I know I should be talking to my agency and I know my peers earn about £400+; the question I asked was how, what to say and when?

      Use a telephone.
Can I get a rate rise to £400 per day please when they renew?
      Tomorrow morning.

It is what I said. find another contract means I can see something at company X paying Y. You don't need to know much more than Unisys are currently looking for C# developers at between £370-£400 a day to be able to convince the agent that he better either reduce his margin or ask for an increase in rate but you may need to know more than the market rate is Y to convince him to do something.

          Better to say

As my contract is coming up for renewal its come to my attention that I'm being paid less than the market rate of £400 a day. Could you start sorting out the renewal on something around that level.

As an aside regardless of this rate issue you had better do something ASAP. Its holiday season and I would bet decent money that between the client and you agent one of the decision makers will be off sometime in the next 3 weeks.

I thought that may come across as being mean so deleted the comment.
