If that's the new shape GTR (not the old R34) then it's a no-brainer. If I was in the market for a sports car in that price range nothing comes close.

Completely agree. Air travel was really booming and suddenly they want to tax the heck out of flights just to make more money. They even forced airlines to quote a tax inclusive price so that mugs do not get an idea of how much of the flight tickets are actually tax.

Other notable tax bandwagon was Labour's idea of taxing broadband. FFS.

Oxygen tax might soon come in. Maybe even cycling tax if everybody abandons cars and starts cycling.

I too am having the usual midlife crisis - I have taken up golf, trying to be attractive to younger women and wanting a sports car.

So the only realsitic option (as my golfing is rubbish) was to get a two seater sports car.

Ok you have 911's at 30k+

But you can get good quality TVR's, BMW z3M for under 10k - and I reckon the Z3M would be a perfectly good everyday car...

I've owned a Z3M (the S54 engined one) and I didn't like it. It has the same suspension as the BMW compact BMW Compact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia from the early 90's ie utter tulipe.

Honestly it's a rubbish car and really cramped inside too.

No, everyone thought I looked like an oversized cock sitting in that tiny car.

Now, women are attracted to power (not bhp type of power) and wealth.

So you want a car that makes you look richer and more powerful than you actually are. Luxury is a plus too, most women tire of having their teeth rattled out with a sports suspension and deafened by engine noise.

                So.....

Looks like a £30K car, costs half that, has 500bhp supercharged V8 and tonnes of luxury too.

aah yes but we have to assume the 4 seater uber wagon is already sat on the U shaped drive way and now we need a 2 seater sports convertable to take the young (and easily impressed) mistress to some quite back lanes for a bit of 'ow's your father'

I had a girl called Portia once; does that count?

You should get yourself a shortlist together with pro's and con's of various marques and their pulling power...

If your remit is a 2 seater convertible then perhaps:

                      1. TVR - Nice cars but will undoubtably break down, and then you have to explain why she will have to stand on the hard shoulder of the M6 in the pissing down rain, in her new dress.

                      2. Honda S2000 - Ultra reliable, but when you tell her it's a Honda, the first thing she tells her mates is "He drives a Honda Civic" - Excellent cars though...

                      3. BMW Z3 / Z4 - Tarnished with the 'tosser' brush....

                      4. Porsche Boxster - The ultimate mid life crisis car

5 Merc SLK (55) - "Short back and sides, sir?" - OK for women, but doesn't do much for your testosterone fuelled image.

and maybe more, but got bored...

My money would be on the S2000 though.
