      I once did some work in a bank in Frankfurt, where at least some of the original team of developers who built the mainframe in the 1960's were still there, almost 40 years later.

      In 30 years time there will be a bunch of doddery old Dot NET developers trying to keep the legacy systems going.

        Permies working until age 70, will have a dire hit on the company pension funds as the number of payouts for 'death-in-service' increase.

          Indeed, if they hadn't invented the motor car London would now be buried in a 9 foot thick layer of horse manure.

          Of course what they should have done was introduce a horse manure tax, and open an exchange to trade horse manure.
